Hurt and Heart | Screenplay
1 INT. KLARMIE’S BEDROOM. DAY.
KLARMIE, 19, opens her eyes in her small bedroom from daylight seeping through the window.
KLARMIE (V/O)
I thought of this crazy idea.
She opens her curtains.
KLARMIE (V/O)
What if, one day, when a person’s heart is
hurt, the wounds show up on their faces or
body as well?
Klarmie looks out the window at passers.
KLARMIE (V/O)
The more it hurts, the deeper the cut; the
longer it hurts the person, the longer the
cut.
Klarmie looks at certain people outside.
2 EXT. STREETS. DAY.
Klarmie walks on the street as she looks at the people.
She passes by a café and sees MAN #1 and WOMAN #1 fighting, over the table.
She sees WOMAN #2 and WOMAN #3 on the street holding hands and chatting.
KLARMIE (V/O)
After the wound heals, then it signifies the
person is fully over the perpetrator of the
wound.
Klarmie stops at a pedestrian red light as she sees a couple screaming at each other on the other side. MAN #2 walks through the red light as MAN #3 screams and cries, staying on the side.
KLARMIE (V/O)
But some scars stay on, forever.
MAN #2 crosses and passes Klarmie as the light turns green.
MAN #3 still stays on the side, gasping for air whilst being desperate, and runs away.
KLARMIE (V/O)
People use makeup and concealer to hide their
wounds.
She passes a GIRL WITH HEAVY MAKEUP who is looking into her handheld mirror. The girl closes her mirror and walks on by, meeting her friends as Klarmie turns around to witness this.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Maybe, I could be the one who can see through
the products, able to tell how many scars and
wounds they have and had.
Klarmie looks at the girl with heavy makeup and suddenly the girl is barefaced and shaking with scars around her body.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Some have scars all over.
The girl shakes and suddenly turns back to her cheery self with makeup on.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Even the people who we might call “whores”.
The ones we thought no longer contain
feelings or take relationships seriously.
Klarmie turns back around and walks on.
She keeps walking and sees an older couple. WOMAN #4 has some scars on her, so does MAN #4.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Some might only have a few.
She smiles at the couple.
They smile back, then smile at each other.
Klarmie stops in her tracks and sees MAN #5 next to the bus stop.
KLARMIE (V/O)
I might come across a man I never met before
and can’t find wounds anywhere on him.
Klarmie stands next to him and smiles. He smiles back.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Then suddenly, a tear falls, and his wounds
show up along the path of his tear.
Klarmie suddenly sees a tear fall on the man’s face and sees traces of scars on his face.
He wipes it, then suddenly everything changes back, as if he never cried and nothing had happened.
A bus arrives.
3 INT. BUS. DAY.
Klarmie stands in the bus and looks around her.
She sees WOMAN #5 and WOMAN #6 intertwining their arms and hands, whilst looking into their phones.
She sees MAN #6 and MAN #7 looking at each other, holding hands and their grocery bags.
KLARMIE (V/O)
No matter how much you hide, wounds can be
small or big, deep or shallow.
Klarmie rings the bus bell.
KLARMIE (V/O)
Everyone will be devoted to at least one or
two people in a lifetime, and what hurts them
the most might not be what they did or said.
Klarmie gets off the bus.
4 EXT. STREETS. DAY.
Klarmie looks into her camera as she takes pictures of the streets.
KLARMIE
But in fact, be the scars those people left
across their bodies, and their hearts.
A GUY runs towards Klarmie.
GUY
I’m sorry, did you wait long?
Klarmie smiles and shakes her head.
KLARMIE
No, I just arrived.
The guy kisses her cheek.
GUY
Let’s go.
Klarmie suddenly looks up at him in deep thoughts.
KLARMIE
How deep will you hurt me?
The guy looks at her, confused.
GUY
Huh? What?
KLARMIE
How do you think you’ll hurt me?
GUY
Well, I don’t think that far ahead, about
things that will never happen.
Klarmie smiles.
GUY
Com’n, if we don’t get to eat soon, then we
will both be hurt.
The guy points at his stomach and pretends to be in pain.
GUY
Right here.
Klarmie laughs and they walk together.
