Find the Way Home | Chapter 7: Time to Escape

Mary remembered Mr. Conlon rushing through the hallways with them, and putting them in the boot of his car. She remembered hearing the motor rev as the car started. At the end of the bumpy and fearful trip, the boot opened to Mr. Conlon’s smug and satisfied look.

Carol and Coral heard Mary talking about the dream during the ride and were frightened. They had no idea how to get out and neither did Jake and Mary.

Mr. Conlon put them down in the kitchen, crammed them all in one cage and discarded the others.

He then walked to his wife and said, “You have been so hard working. This is your reward.”

He showed his wife the rabbits.

His wife was completely shocked, “How did you…”

“I will tell you how I got them while we eat dinner,” Mr. Conlon smiled deviously.

His wife laughed, “Alright, keep your secret until I finish cooking. When should we prepare their meat and eat them?”

“Whenever you are ready. I presume that will be as soon as you can, because I know how keen you are when it comes to rabbit meat,” Mr. Conlon kissed his wife.

Mrs. Conlon smiled and continued to cook.

Mr. Conlon went into his room and changed his clothing.

Mary, Jake, Coral and Carol were so afraid. They were fearful as they thought the time of their deaths was right around the corner.

They needed a way out! But how?

Mary knew that Mr. Conlon was very much in love with rabbit meat and so was his wife.

They could not do anything about the fact that they love rabbit meat…

Mary suddenly remembered.

Kelly told Mary about Mr. Conlon before, ranting about how Mr. Conlon was obsessed with his wife, as he would not stop talking about her at times. They could use that fact to help themselves out!

Mary had an idea.

Mary said loudly to Jake, Coral and Carol, “We need to work up the caring heart of Mrs. Conlon and let her release us.”

Carol looked puzzled, “But she likes rabbit meat too. Why would she release us? Mr. Conlon will not let her to do that anyways. If she did that, he will scold her.”

“No,” Mary disagreed, “Mr. Conlon loves his wife. He will never disagree with his wife and scold her. If he found out his wife did something behind his back, if it was not a terrible thing, he will let it go as well.”

Really, Kelly told Mary a lot of things about school. Their relationship was very close…

She suddenly cried out and scared Jake, Carol and Coral who were listening carefully to her.

Mary started thinking about herself, then Kelly.

What would her future be now?

Looked like it would not be a sweet home with Kelly waiting for her. Actually, maybe she did know – death was probably waiting for her.

She thought that Kelly, Lowy and Lucy would save them but…

Well, they couldn’t have known. The capture took place behind their backs.

Jake, Carol, and Coral were also sad, of course.

Talking is no use. Action is the real thing.
